Forces United Veterans Together have been helping Veterans in Hertfordshire for over 3 years - with everything from navigating the civilian system, to mental health support and social events through the Former Players Club cic who run the mission. They understand that every Veteran has unique needs and they work closely with the Local Authority as well as some incredible and trusted national partners to deliver the best for you.
Across Watford there are many locations to connect with our Armed Forces history or pay tribute to the fallen From the Peace Memorial, to War Graves, a museum display and the crypt in St Mary's church.
Every year we support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and we also install 28 Tommy statues across Watford as part of an art installation called ‘There But Not There’ run by military charity Remembered.
Watford Borough Council in partnership with the Royal British Legion jointly organise a parade and service of Remembrance at the town Peace Memorial. In 2025 in the presence of The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, the Watford community united to pay respects.
The event showcased our Town cadet forces on parade alongside Veterans, serving personnel and civic dignitaries from the Borough and County Councils.
In Watford, the elected Mayor Peter Taylor pledged the Town's support. Having relatives who had served it was a personal desire as well as a reflection of the wishes of many resident serving Armed Forces personnel and the local Veterans support service.
Through the partnership with Forces United Veterans Together project this manifesto promise has been delivered and will continue to grow.
"It is an important way to honour the courage and service of Veterans, those currently serving in our Armed Forces and their families from Watford and across the County who have defended our freedoms. Their bravery continues to inspire us, reminding us of our shared responsibility towards them in return as a nation. I am very proud to have ensured that we commit to delivering the promise we made in 2022 " Peter Taylor, Elected Mayor of Watford

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, along with their families, are treated with fairness, respect, and special consideration in society. It aims to remove disadvantages for the service community regarding healthcare, education, housing, and employment. In 2022 the Covenant became enshrined in law as the Armed Forces Covenant Duty.
This places a legal obligation on public bodies to pay ‘due regard to the principles of the Covenant’ and requires decisions about the development and delivery of certain services to be made with conscious consideration of the needs of the Armed Forces community. The Duty applies to organisations responsible for delivering education, healthcare, and housing services, such as local authorities, NHS trusts, and schools and academies.
Across Hertfordshire local authorities, the public sector and others are kept informed by the County Council who through Hertfordshire Heroes encourage all to work together to uphold the Covenant which was officially re-signed by member organisations on 21st June 2022.
